My client is a global name in R&D and engineering are on the lookout for an expert Textiles Scientist to be based in Singapore. The successful candidate will eventually be promoted to a Team Lead
Responsibilities:
- Assume responsibility to evaluate textiles, processes and techniques
- Initiate and develop new products / components and concepts in textile / fashion related disciplines
- Research, design, and develop products for manufacture
- Act as a chief to ensure constant monitoring of efforts to drive benefit and cost efficiency
- Decide on optimal design solutions and develop test and measurement capabilities according to requirements
- Assume prime responsibility for advising on fundamental principles of polymer science, dyeing, finish technology, chemistry, human skin contact and yarn processing dynamics
- Advise on technical limitations of achieving colour, colourfastness and review of visual colour inspection
- Identify and validate proposed material compositions to ensure necessary requirements and specifications are met
- Formulate textile specifications, test protocols and measurement capabilities according to need and statistical analysis
- Support entire Product Lifecycle Engineering for released products
- Ensure all business activities comply with ethical requirements of Product Development and Intellectual Property
- Negotiate with project stakeholders to ensure that design objectives are balanced with overall project objectives
- Complete relevant internal processes and business plans and ensure testing, verification and validation of designed technologies for textiles / fashion R&D
- Establish, develop and drive new opportunities in partnership with key suppliers and research institutes across the region
- Supervise team members and provide guidance to junior engineers
- Identify new trends for future business opportunities
Requirements:
- Master or Ph.D. in Polymer, Fibre Science, Textiles, Material Engineering or equivalent with at least 7 - 10 years relevant working experience
- Experience in Industrial Textile manufacturing, chemical processing, advanced fibres/yarn, fabric development and manufacturing technology.
- Extensive working knowledge of textile composition and mechanical behaviour of textiles and fibres
- Thorough understanding of various fabrication techniques, manufacturing processing and secondary processes such as dyeing, finishing, printing, bonding and coating
- Ability to handle elastic and breathable material and experience with inner wear, sport wear, medical garments etc. will be a plus
- Knowledge in fabric-foam lamination will be an advantage
- Experience with Intellectual Property will be a big plus
